Time Machines
Louise Manifold
Description
Triggered by what the artist felt as a collision between her unconscious memory and cinematic representation, Time Machines explores the relationship between two redundant watchtowers perched on the edge of the west coast of Ireland. Each watch tower comes from a different era, one from the Napoleonic, the other dating to the Second World War. These two outmoded forms of surveillance sit on the edge of a world they were designed to guard and, to the artist, appear to be watching each other; caught between the position of viewer and viewed, of subject and object, they are intruders in an invented landscape of anxiety and the occult beyond order.
