Artist's biography

Susan MacWilliam

Synopsis

Conjuring an image of both the romantic and the sinister, Faint presents images of a fainting girl (the artist) set against the sound of bird song. Faint draws on mesmerism, trance and hysteria, and connects to previous works dealing with spiritualism and materialisation mediums. Initiated during a residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Faint was shot at Powerscourt Gardens, Wicklow and in the grounds and interiors of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
