Chris O'Neill is an Irish filmmaker/video artist currently based in Cork City, Ireland. He specialises in using experimental techniques within a variety of genres to achieve a dramatic and intimate effect. These include adapting footage from conventional pre-existing films: the imagery is abstracted, reframed, magnified and fragmented. Many of the pieces reinterpret the images to focus solely on a single female character and abstract, empty spaces. The original imagery is often processed and changed in such a way that the source is no longer recognisable. This is due to the mixing of analogue video and celluloid film formats with digital formats: the imperfection and distortion of the older formats add unique textures not present before
